With two separate shelter populations, we have a variety of gifting opportunities for generous Baytonians. The Emergency Shelter has two buildings that houses single men in one dormitory, and single women and children in a separate building. While clients may stay for at least 30 days, this is a more transient population and our shelter census changes daily. Usually, these clients appreciate new blankets, socks, coats, and personal toiletries. As might be expected, the children love age appropriate toys that can be easily transported. To furnish gifts for these clients it is always wise to contact our Program Manager, Marianne Jackson, at 281-837-1654.
Clients housed at the Britton-Fuller Center are all intact homeless families. Their needs are the same, but family size varies from two to six people. Always Needed Items: We always have need for new, or gently used twin and full sheet sets, toiletries, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, washing machine detergent, boxes of copier paper, paper goods, new or gently used towels, children’s books, disposable diapers and canned goods.
Volunteer Opportunities: Bay Area Homeless Services welcomes inquiries from anyone wishing to donate their time in service to our less fortunate community members. Opportunities are available for people of all ages and abilities. Many volunteer tasks involve routine administrative or clerical tasks, but many more are geared toward groups of all sizes and skill levels. We welcome volunteers who need to complete community service projects, or those seeking to enhance their resumes. Please contact Marianne Jackson at 281-837-1654.
Service Project Coordinators: Many groups seek opportunities to serve the Greater Baytown community, and we aim to please! We can usually accommodate requests to develop service projects for groups from 5 to 20 members with a little planning. As may be suspected, a short lead time may be necessary to develop a project that is appropriate for the group size and variety of skill levels. Special Services Needed:
Bay Area Homeless Services always is in need of specialized services to be donated or provided. As a result this section will change frequently as needs change, and services are provided. At this time, our agency is in need of:
1) Social Media Mentor to assist with updating older social media platform (Facebook) and initiating 2 new platforms
2) IT volunteer who will transfer old data from 2 laptop computers to storage device, and prepare computers for new users
3) Community volunteers who will act as a potential employer in our Mock Interview sessions. We hold these sessions twice monthly at the shelter. Call Shannon Falk – 281-837-1654
